Financial empowerment is the key to unlocking the boundless potential of both men and women. UBA Kenya Bank has firmly established itself to support women entrepreneurs within Kenya.
UBA Kenya’s recent triumph at the prestigious Banking on Women Awards, where they clinched the coveted title of Best Support for Women-Owned Business through Mentorship and Networking, is a testament to their unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of women business leaders.
UBA Kenya Bank’s journey to this accolade is rooted in its belief that women are powerful catalysts for economic transformation. Recognizing that women-owned businesses are integral to the socio-economic fabric of Kenya, the bank has meticulously crafted initiatives that go beyond traditional banking.
Their holistic approach focuses on providing access to capital and fostering an environment where mentorship and networking thrive—cornerstones of sustainable business growth.
At the heart of UBA Kenya Bank’s success is its robust mentorship program, which has become a lifeline for many women entrepreneurs navigating the often tumultuous waters of business. Through initiatives such as the Tony Elumelu Foundation which has seen thousands of entrepreneurs being trained and empowered, the bank has paired seasoned business experts with aspiring entrepreneurs, creating a dynamic exchange of knowledge, experience, and inspiration. This mentorship not only equips women with the tools to overcome challenges but also instills the confidence to innovate, lead, and succeed.
Networking is another pillar of UBA Kenya Bank’s support system, providing women entrepreneurs with invaluable opportunities to connect, collaborate, and create. The bank has curated a vibrant ecosystem where women can engage with industry leaders, potential partners, and peers. These networking events have become fertile ground for forging strategic alliances, sharing ideas, and discovering new avenues for growth. The bank has held various forums with women entrepreneurs to have them exchange ideas and grow.
To help entrepreneurs financially, the African Guarantee Fund (AGF) and UBA signed a partnership that ensures that UBA provides $100 million in new loans to Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and business owners across the 20 African countries where the bank has a presence in Africa.
The AGF under this agreement committed to support and guarantee SMEs with a $50 million Portfolio Guarantee as well as facilitate extensive capacity development for the Bank’s teeming customers who run small businesses across the continent, paying special attention to women-led businesses and green finance projects.
The impact of UBA Kenya Bank’s efforts is palpable in the success stories of countless women who have not only survived but thrived in the competitive business landscape. These stories are not just about financial gains; they are about dreams realized, communities uplifted, and barriers broken. The recognition at the Banking on Women Awards is a celebration of these achievements and a reminder of the transformative power of intentional support.
