Billionaire Elon Musk ran a huge Twitter Poll that showed that 70 percent people around the world believe that Twitter does not adhere to the principle of free speech. In what is likely to shape the operations of Twitter, Musk is considering starting his own social media platform.
“Free speech is essential to functioning democracy. Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle,” asked Elon Musk on his Twitter account that has 79.2 million followers.
The poll attracted 2,034,924 responses with 70 percent saying Twitter does not adhere to the principle of free speech. 30 percent agreed that Twitter does adhere to the principle of free speech.
Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy.

Elon Musk is not strange to controversy and does not shy away from taking on giants with questions that have ended up shifting the markets. Analysts say his recent posts will “really affect Twitter’s performance on the stock market. We are likely to see a drop in the share price.”
In the past, Musk made comments about Bitcoins that almost crurshed the markets. Outcries from various investors made him to tone down. “We were scared that if he made one more tweet, the markets would completely crush,” said one investor.
