The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) has directed the office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to close the case on former Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i and “stop any further police action.
In a letter to DCI, the ODPP said the case presented against Dr. Fred Matiang’i is weak and cannot withstand trial. Therefore, “the Director of Public Prosecution has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigation to close this inquiry file with no further police action.”
Here is the statement from the ODPP:
According to the ODPP, “the evidence provided was not sufficient to sustain the above charges against Dr. Fred Matiang’i and his advocate Mr. Danstan Omari.” This now leaves the DCI with an egg on the face as they had been pushing for Matiang’is prosecution.
Last week, there was a commotion at the DCI headquarters when Dr. Fred Matiang’i and his lawyers presented themselves at the DC for “questioning” on the alleged police raid at Dr. Fred Matiang’s home.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga also arrived at the DCI but was prevented from entering causing a commotion and an uproar from a section of his supporters who threatened to storm the DCI offices with him.
