To mark its significant 40th anniversary, AAR Insurance has rolled out a nationwide tree-planting initiative, ‘40,000 Trees to Mark AAR@40’. This initiative, part of the broader ‘A Tree a Life’ program, officially kicked off today in Nairobi and at all AAR Insurance branches nationwide. It underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

This landmark event marks the beginning of AAR Insurance’s commitment to plant 150,000 trees throughout Kenya by the end of this year. The trees, including indigenous and exotic species, will support Kenya’s afforestation efforts and help mitigate the effects of climate change and deforestation.

AAR Insurance’s ‘A Tree a Life’ initiative operates on a straightforward yet impactful principle: a tree will be planted for every insurance policy issued by the company. Launched last year as part of AAR’s INTENT campaign, it aligns its operations with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework, demonstrating AAR Insurance’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and actively preserving natural ecosystems.

Present during the event, the AAR Insurance CEO, Justine Kosgei, underscored the company’s steadfast dedication to sustainability within its broader goals. “Our 40th anniversary is not just a time to reflect on our achievements but also an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the future. With the ‘40,000 Trees to Mark AAR@40’ initiative, we are taking meaningful action to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to Kenya’s green agenda. This is more than a symbolic gesture; it is a concrete commitment to the future health of our planet,” he stated.

Speaking during the event, the AAR Group Chief Financial Officer and Head of ESG, Hosea Kiprop, stated, “We are grateful for all the partners like Greenspace,Kenya Defence Forces(KDF), Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Lenana School, SNDBX (Sandbox), schools and others who have collaborated with AAR Insurance on this initiative. This partnership is critical to ensure the proper management and nurturing of the planted trees until they reach maturity. As part of AAR Insurance’s broader campaign, ‘A Tree A Life,’ aims to plant 150,000 trees by the end of 2024.”

On his part,Greenspace Chairman Mattias Andrew noted, “We are proud to partner with AAR Insurance in this significant environmental endeavour. Their commitment to planting 150,000 trees this year will greatly contribute to Kenya’s fight against deforestation and climate change. This partnership exemplifies how businesses can lead by example in supporting sustainable practices. We, therefore, call upon other private sector players to join us.”

In alignment with the government’s national afforestation goals, AAR Insurance has pledged its full support for efforts to increase Kenya’s forest cover. The ‘40,000 Trees to Mark AAR@40’ initiative is not just a commitment but a source of inspiration for greater public and private sector involvement in afforestation and environmental conservation.
