The government has published the charges that motorists will be required to pay in order to use the most expensive road in East Africa; the Nairobi Expressway.
According to the Gazette Notice released on Tuesday, motorists will be required to part with an amount between 100 and 300 shillings in order to use the road according to the distance being covered.
Those who will be driving between Mlolongo and James Gichuru will pay 310 shillings while those covering the distance between JKIA to Westlands and James Gichuru will part with 260 shillings.
From South Bypass to Westlands and Museum Hill, motorists will be required to pay 160 shillings while those from SGR to Westlands and James Gichuru will pay 260 shillings.
Motorists traveling between Easter Bypass to JKIA and James Gichuru will have to pay 100 shillings while those between James Gichuru and Haile Selassie will part with 110 shillings.
Although KENHA seemed to disown the numbers saying the notice was fake, those with knowledge of the matter say those are the true numbers that will be unveiled by President Uhuru Kenyatta when he will be opening the road.
Kenyans have protested the figures saying they are too high given that the road has largely been financed using their taxes.
At the same time, the government has released a list of those who will not be allowed to use the road. If found, they will be arrested, jailed, be made to pay a fine or both (jail and fine).
Those walking on foot will have to use the road through Viusasa. Those who use boda bodas will only use the road in their dream while those who use Tuk-tuks have only been told to imagine the road and not to make it practical. Those using scooters will also not be allowed to use the road.
