The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has put in place preparations for Kenya to host the coveted Transform Africa Summit set to be held in Nairobi in August this year.
The Authority held a soft launch on Wednesday that brought together stakeholders from the tech and communications industries to highlight the expectations and what the summit will mean for the country.
The Summit is expected to bring together well over 5,000 delegates from Africa and the world to deliberate on matters of fostering innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development across the African continent.
The Wednesday event was graced by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo who reiterated the commitment of the ministry and the government to empower innovations within the country as well as capitalizing on the Summit to get more opportunities for Kenyans.
“As a country, we are set and ready to host this important summit. We do not take the hosting rights granted to us for granted, but as a challenge to live up to the expectations of the delegates attending the Summit and what this will mean for the country thereafter,” said CS Owalo.
“As members of Smart Africa, we have the opportunity to leverage the Transform Africa Summit as a critical forum for regulators and policymakers alike, to collaborate and achieve our ambitions as a continent,” said Mary Mungai, CBS, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Communications Authority of Kenya.
On his part, the Director-General of the Communications Authority, Mr. David Mogonyi, the upcoming event will put Kenya and Kenyans, not just on the continental map but global, and help in chartering a way for more innovations within the country.
“We look forward to an exciting period ahead, as we plan to host our peer regulators from the region, policymakers, and experts from around the world,” he said.
Kenya won the bid to host the 2024 Transform Africa Summit (TAS) convened by the Smart Africa Alliance, a Pan-African agency for ICTs in an announcement that was made in Barcelona, Spain, on the sidelines of the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC-24).
The Transform Africa Summit 2024 will be held at the KICC from 28-30th August this year.
