The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer for Embakasi East Tallying Centre has gone missing.
Addressing the nation, the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said that Daniel Musyoka was reported missing on Friday, shortly after he reported at his workstation.
According to the IEBC Chair, Daniel was escorted to his office by his bodyguard at around 9 am on Friday. He then excused himself to make a call and never returned.
Mr. Chebukati has called on the police to carry out investigations to find out the whereabouts of Mr. Daniel Musyoka. Meanwhile, his duties have been taken over by his deputy returning officer.
The disappearance of Mr. Daniel Musyoka brings back the dark memories of the disappearance of Chris Musando, who was later found brutally murdered. It is not yet clear whether Daniel was kidnapped on election-related matters and the family is hoping that he will be found safe and sound.
Kenyans went to the polls on August 9 to elect the President and Deputy President, governors, senators, MPs, Women Reps and MCAs.
Most results for all the other positions have been declared at the county level apart from the Presidential ones that have to be made at the Bomas of Kenya by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
The tallying at the Bomas of Kenya youth still going on. Media houses that were tallying their own results and streaming to the public have been ordered to stop after it emerged that someone hacked into the system and uploaded fake Form 34As to hoodwink the media.
For now it is a matter of “wait-and-see” with all eyes now directed to Mr. Wafula Chebukati who should declare the winner of the Presidential elections on or before Tuesday next week. The country is currently on a standstill and people anxiously wait without knowing what will happen.
