The Immigration Department has revealed that former powerful Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i left the country on February 19, 2023.
In a letter sent to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the Immigration Department says Dr. Fred Matiang’i left the country before he was summoned.
Dr. Fred Matiang’i is said to have left aboard a KLM flight on a diplomatic passport. His destination was not mentioned but sources say he is either in England or Canada.
Matiang’i was supposed to appear before the DCI to “shed light on allegations that police officers had broken into his home.” Both the police and the DCI refuted the claims.
Sources now indicate that Matiang’i might have left the country with his family because “he was concerned about the safety of his family and his.”
The Kenya Kwanza Government which promised to “forgive all those who frustrated William Ruto when he was President and move on”, seems to have forgotten that and has unleashed a whole machinery against Matiang’i who was in charge.
Some of the Kenya Kwanza legislators are calling on Matiang’i to be “deported back to Kenya” so that he “can pay for his crimes.” In what seems like personal revenge, the government seems to be targeting him given he was directly used to frustrate Ruto when he was the Deputy President.
During the week, the government, through the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is seeking to audit the lifestyle of Fred Matiang’i to establish how he got “his massive wealth.”
President William Ruto has remained mute during the whole onslaught, making jokes here and there about it but not fully commenting on it.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has also remained silent on the whole issue. He seems to know that by targeting Matiang’i, William Ruto is daring him to speak given he was the Commander-in-Chief.
