There have been allegations of people being recorded against their will in guest houses, hotels, and AirBnBs across the country. There have been reports that unscrupulous businessmen then use the videos to extort cash from their customers.
If you suspect that a room might be having hidden cameras, here are some of the ways to try and find out:
Turn off the lights in your room and move around trying to see if you will spot any hidden night vision cameras. Look out for unusual ray-like lights, or blinking lights within the room as soon as you turn off your lights. Focus on the corners of the room.
Check for any unusual objects within the room. In most cases, hidden cameras will be placed in areas you will list expect like within a table lamp. Also, check if any unusual object has been placed in the bathroom or right above the bed/in the middle of the room.
Use your mobile phone to identify hidden CCTV surveillance within the room. Launch the phone’s photo app. Move the phone’s camera around. Look for a small blue-white light. If you spot any small, bright-whitish light, set your phone down and investigate further.

Find out how many mirrors are in the room and how they have been placed. Try to move around them, especially on the sides. Most hidden cameras are within or behind the mirrors. At the same time, ask a hotel if they have any data protection policy for their customers.
