Kenafric Properties has addressed public concerns following the recent repossession of a parcel of land in Baba Dogo, Nairobi, commonly known by residents as the “Baba Dogo football grounds.”

The company confirmed that the repossession, which took place on June 13, 2025, followed a court ruling by the Environment and Land Court affirming Kenafric’s legal ownership of the land, officially registered as Land Reference Number 336/109.

In a statement issued today, Kenafric acknowledged the emotional significance of the space, which had become an informal hub for youth sports, community events, and small-scale trade over the years.

“We fully recognize the emotional value this site held for many, especially young people who found purpose, connection, and a sense of belonging through football and other community activities held there,” the company said.

Kenafric clarified that it first acquired the land in 1996, received a formal 50-year lease extension in 2004, and later transferred the property to Kenafric Properties Limited in 2014. The company emphasized that the decision to reclaim the property was made only after the court’s ruling in Case ELCE093 of 2023 and after following due legal process, including notifying local leaders.

“This was not an act of hostility or disregard for the community,” the company stressed. “Claims of land grabbing are not only inaccurate but also unfair to the process that the courts have upheld.”

Kenafric further reaffirmed its commitment to community development and inclusivity, noting its longstanding roots as a Kenyan-owned business.

“As a proudly Kenyan company, Kenafric remains committed to uplifting the communities around us through positive and inclusive engagement with local stakeholders,” the statement concluded.

The company did not indicate any immediate plans for the land but pledged continued dialogue with the local community.
