The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially announced plans to train examiners who will be responsible for assessing the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) for Grade 9 candidates.
In a notice published on Tuesday, March 4, KNEC stated that the training program would be conducted between March and April 2025, immediately after the application and selection process is complete.
This initiative is aimed at ensuring that qualified teachers are well-equipped with the necessary skills to evaluate the assessments effectively and maintain high standards in the examination process.

The council further stated that only shortlisted applicants would be contacted with details on payment and further instructions. The training sessions will be offered at a fee of Ksh 10,500, which will be payable only by those who have successfully been shortlisted.
KNEC clarified that any payment details would be communicated directly to the selected individuals, ensuring that no unqualified persons attempt to pay for the program.
The first part of the training will take place virtually, where trainees will be guided on how to access online training materials and undergo initial theoretical lessons.
After the online training, participants will be required to attend a residential in-person training session at a venue that will be communicated later. This session will involve practical exercises and further orientation on marking the KJSEA assessments.
KNEC has emphasized that the physical training is strictly residential, meaning that all participants must stay at the designated venue for the entire duration of the program.
Once the training is complete, successful examiners will be engaged by KNEC to mark the KJSEA assessments, depending on the personnel requirements for each subject.
