Saveer Singh Vohra, a Director at Kenya’s first indigenous hospitality group Sarova Hotels, has been named among the top 40 under 40 Men in Kenya by the Business Daily. The Top 40 Under 40 is an initiative by the Business Daily that helps identify youthful entrepreneurs making a change in the business world.
The story of Saveer is one that sounds impossible. It is a mélange of resilience, sweat, and the power to always hold on and move forward. Falling and rising after every instance without looking back and giving excuses.
In 2018, he moved back to run several companies within his family business stable ranging from hospitality, manufacturing, real estate development, tours & travel, aviation, importation and distributorship, industrial warehousing & automotive engineering.
Among them is the family’s flagship, the Sarova Hotels which has 7 properties across the country. It has weathered the turbulence of the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the hospitality industry hard globally.
“I wake up in the morning knowing that I’ll go out there today to strive to be the best. Not just for myself but my entire family. My family includes each individual that I have a relationship with, ones we work with, their families,” he told the Business Daily.
According to Saveer, he was groomed and taught to work in family businesses from a young age. When he took over the Sarova portfolio at the age of 23, he started piecing the success puzzle. He was among the youngest Directors then.
Saveer pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Finance at the University of Warwick in the UK and then moved to Mauritius where he was part of BDO Mauritius’ Corporate Finance team.
“The hospitality industry is one of largest interests across the continent. After being thrust into the position of being at the helm of my family’s business portfolio, hospitality is an industry I couldn’t shy away from,” he told the Business Daily.
He stands strong on his belief that Africa is the land of opportunities and his vision is to create a footprint across the continent.
He wears other hats such as director, member of the audit and risk committee, and is actively involved in the group’s strategy, growth, and expansion. He says his success is anchored on humility.
“The future holds promises and dreams for the youth that can be achieved through hard work, dedication, planning, education, and words of wisdom,” Saveer reiterates.
