The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, opted to recruit teachers for an internship program in a bid to address the teething staffing gaps in public primary and secondary schools.
This program would see intern teachers hired to work along the ones on permanent and pensionable terms. whereas both categories execute similar teaching tasks, the monthly perks for teacher interns are much lower compared to their counterparts on permanent terms.
Internships are essential for ensuring that students apply their classroom learning in the real world. It exposes students to a variety of career areas, supporting them in the acquisition of relevant skills.
TSC released a list of nine documents to be presented by intern teachers during the Primary and Secondary Schools teacher’s recruitment. This was made available for intern teachers to submit during the recruitment of teachers for primary and secondary schools.
Teachers hired by the TSC through the internship program must work there for a year (1 year). However, whenever TSC advertises job vacancies for permanent positions, intern teachers are encouraged to apply.
Teachers who secure jobs with TSC under the internship program are required to serve for a period of one year. However, it is important to remember that if TSC advertises employment vacancies on permanent terms, intern teachers are eligible to apply
