The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially commenced the process of notifying successful applicants for the 2,014 replacement teaching positions that were advertised earlier this year. The application period for these vacancies concluded on May 19, 2025, and candidates who applied have begun receiving official communication from the commission.
According to the TSC’s earlier advertisement, the commission is recruiting teachers to fill 2,014 positions left vacant due to natural attrition and other exits. The distribution of these positions includes 1,309 posts in primary schools, 32 in junior secondary schools, and 673 in secondary schools.
This recruitment exercise is part of the commission’s broader effort to ensure consistent learning in public schools by filling staffing gaps created when teachers leave the service.
All positions advertised by the TSC are on permanent and pensionable (PNP) terms, signaling a long-term employment opportunity for successful candidates. This move is expected to bolster the stability of the teaching workforce and ensure a steady delivery of education services across the country.
To qualify for the advertised positions, applicants were required to meet specific academic and professional criteria. For those seeking employment in primary schools, the minimum qualification is a P1 certificate. Meanwhile, applicants targeting junior and secondary school positions must possess at least a diploma in education.
During the shortlisting and recruitment process, all applicants are mandated to present original documents along with clear, legible photocopies for verification by a designated recruitment panel. The documentation requirements vary slightly depending on the level of teaching being applied for.

Provisions for Intern Teachers and Persons with Disabilities
The TSC has also provided specific guidelines for serving intern teachers and persons with disabilities. Intern teachers who have been awarded 50 marks on the recruitment score sheet are exempted from presenting the full set of documents. Instead, they are only required to provide their national identification cards during the verification process.
Additionally, applicants with disabilities are advised to declare both their disability status and the specific nature of their disabilities. This information is crucial to help the commission make appropriate placements that consider the needs and capabilities of these candidates.
Once the verification exercise is completed, the TSC Sub-County Directors will be responsible for compiling a Merit List comprising all applicants whose documents have been successfully verified. The commission has stated that these Merit Lists will be made accessible to members of the public upon request.
However, this access will be provided in a manner that does not compromise the integrity of the recruitment process. Furthermore, the dissemination of such information will be in full compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2019, to safeguard the privacy of applicants.
This recruitment drive marks another important milestone in TSC’s ongoing efforts to address staffing challenges in the public education sector. It also reflects the commission’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, inclusive, and efficient hiring process as it seeks to uphold the quality of education in Kenya.
