The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the cancellation of leave days for all teachers from Monday except for female teachers on maternity to allow a seamless examination period. This means that no teacher will be going on leave unless it is very necessary.
The TSC gives teachers a number of leave days. For teachers to get sick leave, maternity leave, study leave, and all other leaves, they must apply through writing to the Commission. The announcement comes a few days after TSC announced the increase in both maternity and paternity leaves for teachers.
In the new maternity and paternity leaves, female teachers will now have 120 days as maternity leave days from the initial 90 days. Male teachers, on the other hand, will have 21 days as paternity leave days from the initial 21 days.
The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations will take place from March 7th – 10th, 2022. The students currently in Class 8 will be the second-last batch of learners under the 8-4-4 system to sit for KCPE. This year will have two KCSE Exams.

Students currently in Form Four in secondary schools will sit for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination between March 11th and April 1st, 2022.
In its Strategic Plan 2019-2023, the Commission identified Reforms and Innovation in the provision of its services as a strategic focus area aimed at improving service delivery to employees and stakeholders.
TSC has successfully automated the leave application and approval process and migrated the same to an online system. To this end, there will be no manual application for all types of leaves which was effective 1st December 2021.
All teachers including interns are required to henceforth apply for leave using the online platform. The detailed procedure on how to apply for leave in the system is provided in the user guidelines which may be accessed through the Commission’s website.
